It's official: Blogathon is on.
I've signed up for the Blogathon.
The charity I have chosen to support is the Association for International Cancer Research, and this is why:
My oldest sister died of liver cancer when she was 29, back in 1990. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer just a couple of years ago. My mother is still aliveand in complete remission, apparentlydue to advancements from cancer research. My sister was beyond assistance, but that might not be true for everyone's sister....
I feel like I owe the industry something for their hard work on my family's behalf, even if it's just a couple of bucks to supply some test tube washer with free pizza.
Here's how it works:
Saturday, July 26th, I sit down at my computer at 9:00 AM EDT. For the next 24 hours, I post at least once per half an hour. The Blogathon site does not host a blog for these purposes, so I'll be doing it in this account on LJ.
You can click here to sponsor me with a pledge. You may pledge by the hour, or you can make a flat pledge to be paid if I make it to the end.
When it is all over, you pay the charity I've selected personally. Neither myself nor anyone at Blogathon.org will touch the money. You will get an e-mail telling you how to pay. I've selected a charity that accepts online payments, just to keep things simple.
I will have the webcam running, so anyone who wants will be able to watch my bleary ass typing. With any luck, the webcam will be attached to my wireless notebook, so you guys might be able to get special bonus video of something other than me in my chair in the office. With even better luck, I might even have streaming video worked out. There might even be special segments available only to those who pledge. You never know. I have a week and a half to work out such details.
I may have chat sessions available. Hell, I may try to schedule guests and run it like a damned talk/variety show.
I'm petrified. How about you?
