It's official: Blogathon is on.
I've signed up for the Blogathon.

The charity I have chosen to support is the Association for International Cancer Research, and this is why:

My oldest sister died of liver cancer when she was 29, back in 1990. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer just a couple of years ago. My mother is still alive—and in complete remission, apparently—due to advancements from cancer research. My sister was beyond assistance, but that might not be true for everyone's sister....

I feel like I owe the industry something for their hard work on my family's behalf, even if it's just a couple of bucks to supply some test tube washer with free pizza.

Here's how it works:

Saturday, July 26th, I sit down at my computer at 9:00 AM EDT. For the next 24 hours, I post at least once per half an hour. The Blogathon site does not host a blog for these purposes, so I'll be doing it in this account on LJ.

You can click here to sponsor me with a pledge. You may pledge by the hour, or you can make a flat pledge to be paid if I make it to the end.

When it is all over, you pay the charity I've selected personally. Neither myself nor anyone at Blogathon.org will touch the money. You will get an e-mail telling you how to pay. I've selected a charity that accepts online payments, just to keep things simple.

I will have the webcam running, so anyone who wants will be able to watch my bleary ass typing. With any luck, the webcam will be attached to my wireless notebook, so you guys might be able to get special bonus video of something other than me in my chair in the office. With even better luck, I might even have streaming video worked out. There might even be special segments available only to those who pledge. You never know. I have a week and a half to work out such details.

I may have chat sessions available. Hell, I may try to schedule guests and run it like a damned talk/variety show.

I'm petrified. How about you?

We'll need a fast car and to test the wireless upload configs for the webcam in advance... but it might be doable.

Last I checked, you had a really large tub, right?

I'm seriously considering sleeping at work (or I should say, not sleeping) next Saturday so I can watch the madness. And maybe participate!

If only it wasn't 24 hours straight /in my office/. I'd much rather be in someone's comfy house. Lemme see who I can bribe nearby, and I'll get back to ya. :)

Wow... this is a pretty neat thing. I'd never heard of the Blogathon before! Good luck! :)

I'm rather tempted to participate myself, now, though I sort of doubt I'd manage to be very interesting after a full day of posting. :-P

The more exhausted I am, the farther afield I wander. It's something to behold.

If I raise more that $1000, I may promise to do it without the aid of caffeine....

*startled*

It's possible for a human to go 24 hours without caffine?

I, too, tend to come up with my more interesting thoughts when I'm utterly exhausted. Maybe I'll try this; it could be interesting, and it would force me to write not just when I think of something about myself that I want to write of...

Either way, it'll be interesting to read what you come up with, I'm sure. I may consider sponsoring you for a little, despite my status as a poor college student. It's a worthwhile cause.

It should be a good exercise for you. In what, I don't know.

I, for one, will observe. Remember to have lots of cookies nearby. They give you energy.

Maybe I'll promise to eat an entire pound of Oreos for every $100 pledged.

I dunno whether it's cos I'm on Safari (or if I just haven't downloaded something necessary) but I can't see your webcam images. *sniffle*

wow. You so rock! Hey, let me know if I can help, providing distraction or amusement or snacks. I *think* I'll be in town by then. I have no money to offer, but maybe I could be staff support or something.

cheers!

The Blogathon happens in seven days.

If you aren't here for the joy, you can at least be available afterwards to help me put my brain back in my skull.
